Abstract

The study published in the journal "Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeon" examines the relationship between MELD Score and outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for infective endocarditis. The MELD Score, which assesses liver function, was found to be strongly associated with postoperative mortality and morbidity, with higher scores correlating with increased risk. Patients with a MELD Score over 30 had poor outcomes, indicating futility. The study suggests further research to determine if MELD assessment provides additional benefits compared to traditional assessment methods like EuroSCORE II. [Extracted from the article]
