Abstract

Researchers at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill conducted a study on the impact of antiplatelet therapy (APT) on hemostatic plug formation in the context of thrombocytopenia. The study found that for severe thrombocytopenia, single APT strikes a balance between antithrombotic effects and limited bleeding, with clopidogrel showing a stronger antithrombotic effect but slightly increased bleeding compared to aspirin. The research, supported by the National Heart Lung And Blood Institute, highlights the clinical challenge of managing APT in patients with thrombocytopenia due to the increased bleeding risk associated with APT.
