Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine the transformations in Ukrainian poetry within the context of the protracted war with Russia, with a particular focus on the period since 2014. The text considers literary activities within the framework of decolonization and illustrates how contemporary war poets continue the literary tradition shaped by prior historical experiences. The article presents literary phenomena and specifi c poetic strategies that have emerged in response to current events. In Ukrainian war poetry, there is a continuation of themes related to the Russo-Ukrainian history, which is refl ected in recent literary works (Lyubov Yakymchuk). Notable poets such as Serhiy Zhadan, Borys Humeniuk, and Pavlo Vyshchebaba, who actively participate in the war, document the war and its impact on society through their poetry, utilizing the literary tradition in modern contexts. Yaryna Chornohuz, a poet and soldier, addresses issues of loss and longing for home in her meditative works, portraying the war as a deeply personal and spiritual experience. Many Ukrainian authors dehumanize Russian adversaries by using monstrous metaphors to depict their brutality. A recurring issue in war poetry is the challenge of fi nding an appropriate language to describe wartime realities, leading to the exploration of new forms of literary expression. Poets strive to precisely convey traumatic events, highlighting „the power of speech that is stronger than the fear of silence". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
