Abstract
- Researchers at the Department of Geography in Assam, India, conducted a study on homestead agroforestry systems in Sivasagar District, assessing their significance for rural livelihoods using the Livelihood Significance Index (LSI). The study found that socio-economic changes have influenced the importance of various plant species in these systems, with species like Bambusa arundinacea showing high livelihood significance despite a slight decrease over the past decade. The research highlights challenges such as loss of traditional knowledge and environmental vulnerabilities, recommending sustainable agroforestry practices that integrate traditional and economically valuable species to enhance resilience and livelihood sustainability in flood-prone villages like Afala.
