Abstract

A study conducted in rural Burundi evaluated the use of a multimodal pulse oximeter by Community Health Workers (CHWs) during sick child consultations. The research found that CHWs struggled with interpreting certain parameters, such as respiration rate and oxygen saturation, but found the devices highly acceptable and valuable. While CHWs and caregivers appreciated the oximeters during sick child visits, the study suggested that they may be better utilized at the health facility level. Additional training and capacity-building for CHWs on interpreting parameters is recommended for improved use of oximeters during household consultations in Burundi. [Extracted from the article]
