Abstract
- The Jurassic section at Gintsi Village (Western Balkan Mts, Bulgaria), including the Zaskogo natural landmark, has been reevaluated as a geosite of continental significance with high scientific, educational, and historical value to Bulgarian geology. With its diverse lithology and rich fossils (ammonites, bivalves, belemnites, brachiopods) spanning more than 55 Ma (from the Hettangian to Tithonian, but also including the Berriasian and Valanginian of the Early Cretaceous), this geosite has been the subject of great interest since the late 19th century. Geotourism can be a great benefit to this geosite due to its natural (and geological) diversity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
