Abstract
- Researchers from Akershus University Hospital conducted a study to explore the associations between biomarkers such as Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF-15), cardiac troponin T (cTnT), and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) with myocardial fibrosis in patients with cardiovascular disease. The study involved 200 participants without known coronary artery disease or renal dysfunction, and findings indicated that GDF-15 was associated with nonischemic scars, while cTnT and NT-proBNP were linked to ischemic scars. The research highlights the potential of these biomarkers in predicting myocardial fibrosis, providing valuable insights for future diagnostic and treatment strategies in cardiology.
