Abstract

Researchers from Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) in Botucatu, Brazil, have proposed two optimization approaches for Wolbachia-based biocontrol of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The methods aim to ensure the stable persistence of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes in the wild populations with minimal release of Wolbachia-carrying insects. This research, supported by various Brazilian and Colombian institutions, utilizes metaheuristics and discrete-time optimization to design effective release strategies for different Wolbachia strains. The study, published in Applied Mathematical Modelling, provides examples of release strategies for Wolbachia strains w Mel and w MelPop. [Extracted from the article]
