Abstract
- Researchers from the University of St Andrews have examined the role of the "migratory rat" in the Third Plague Pandemic in British India from 1896 to 1899. The study explores how the rat was used in epidemiological reasoning and how Indigenous scientists contested colonial approaches to plague. This research, supported by the Wellcome Trust, sheds light on the complex and ambivalent processes surrounding the understanding of zoonotic diseases during this period. The findings have been published in the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences and are available for further exploration. [Extracted from the article]
