Abstract

A study conducted at Jena University Hospital in Germany compared the oral health of 7- to 9-year-old children born prematurely to those born full-term. The research found that prematurely born children were at a higher risk for dental caries, developmental defects of enamel, and compromised periodontal health compared to full-term children. Children with extremely low birth weight were identified as the most susceptible to dental caries and gingivitis. The study highlights the potential impact of prematurity on oral health outcomes in children. [Extracted from the article]
