Abstract

Coulomb breakup of neutron-rich Be, B, C, and O isotopes at relativistic energies (400-600 A MeV) was studied with kinematically complete measurements. The ground-state properties of these nuclei were deduced by comparing experimental data for Coulomb-dissociation cross-sections with direct-breakup model calculations. The dominant ground-state configurations of <superscript>15</superscript>C, <superscript>11</superscript>Be, <superscript>14</superscript>B, and <superscript>23</superscript>O were found to be <superscript>14</superscript>C <subscript>gs</subscript>(0<superscript>+</superscript>) ⊗ ν<subscript>s</subscript>,<superscript>10</superscript>Be <subscript>gs</subscript>(0<superscript>+</superscript>) ⊗ ν<subscript>s</subscript>, <superscript>13</superscript>B <subscript>gs</subscript>(3/2<superscript>+</superscript>) ⊗ ν<subscript>s,d</subscript>, and <superscript>22</superscript>O <subscript>gs</subscript>(0<superscript>+</superscript>) ⊗ ν<subscript>s</subscript>, respectively, and <superscript>16</superscript>C(2 <superscript>+</superscript>) ⊗ ν<subscript>s,d</subscript> for <superscript>17</superscript>C. The capture cross-section for <superscript>14</superscript>C(n,γ) <superscript>15</superscript>C relevant in astrophysical scenarios was measured indirectly through Coulomb dissociation.
