Abstract
- Three capybaras were found dead from rabies on Anchieta Island in Sao Paulo state, Brazil, between December 2019 and January 2020. The rabies strain found in the capybaras was the same as the variant present in Common vampire bats. Environmental disturbances, such as deforestation and habitat changes, may contribute to an increase in rabies cases in wild animals. Research is ongoing to understand the role capybaras play in the viral cycle and potential transmission to other animals. [Extracted from the article]
