Abstract

A report from New York University (NYU) discusses research findings on invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), the second-most common histologic subtype of breast cancer, constituting 5% to 15% of all breast cancers. The research highlights the challenges in detecting ILC on mammography and ultrasound, with digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) showing improved sensitivity. Additional screening modalities such as breast MRI and contrast-enhanced mammography are also discussed for their effectiveness in detecting ILC. The study concludes that supplemental screening methods increase the detection of ILC, with MRI demonstrating the highest sensitivity. [Extracted from the article]
