Abstract

The article presents some facts and photographs about Houston, Texas that were released during the Nineteenth International Meeting. The Astrodome is the world famous domed stadium and is home of the Houston Astros, Houston Oilers and University of Houston Cougars. Nowhere else can spectators enjoy such comfort and luxury while witnessing such a spectacular variety of events including bullfights, polo and rodeos. Texas Medical Center is internationally famous for history-making heart surgery. This mammoth center contains more than 17 different hospitals and institutions. Houston has become the cultural capital of the Southwest with numerous museums, galleries, music halls and theatres. Among the more prominent civic monuments to the arts is Jones Hall for the Performing Arts--home of the Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera. Most cities seem to have earned a distinctive identity. Houston, however, defies all easy categorization. This city is the one that is constantly forming, concerned not with the past but with the future. Houston's new Intercontinental Airport which was built for supersonic aircraft, then still on the drawing boards, lends evidence to this fact.
