Abstract
- Researchers from the National Institute of Cardiology in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, conducted a systematic review to identify predictors for the prescription of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. The study found that elevated body mass index (BMI) and lung alterations related to gas exchange disturbances were major predictors for NIPPV prescription. This research aims to assist in clinical decision-making and resource conservation by preventing the indiscriminate use of NIPPV. The study was published in the Annals of Medicine in 2024.
