Researchers from the National Institute of Cardiology in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, conducted a systematic review to identify predictors for the prescription of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. The study found that elevated body mass index (BMI) and lung alterations related to gas exchange disturbances were major predictors for NIPPV prescription.
