Abstract

Researchers from the State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo have conducted studies on Clostridium perfringens, a Gram-Positive Endospore-Forming Bacteria that causes gastrointestinal disorders. The research focuses on how the Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin binds to receptors called claudins on the small intestinal epithelium, leading to gut cytotoxicity. The study proposes a model of claudin/CpE assembly and strategies to obstruct its formation to treat diseases caused by Clostridium perfringens. For more information, readers can refer to the article "Cryo-em Structures of Clostridium Perfringens Enterotoxin Bound To Its Human Receptor, Claudin-4" published in Structure.
