Abstract

A recent study conducted by the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain focused on the prevalence, risk factors, and molecular identification of paramphistomid species in sheep from a Spanish endemic area. The research found that 14% of the animals and 44% of the flocks were positive for paramphistomid infections, with older sheep and those from specific farm locations being more susceptible. Molecular identification revealed a 100% similarity with Calicophoron daubneyi sequences from other European and Mediterranean countries. The study highlights the need for effective control measures to limit infections in livestock, especially in sheep, which are susceptible to developing clinical paramphistomidosis.
