Abstract
- Researchers from Nestle Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, conducted a study on the use of dielectric barrier discharge ionization (DBDI) as an alternative soft ionization technique for the quantitative determination of fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) and acrylates (FTACs) in environmental, biological, or food samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The study found that GC-DBDI-HRMS provided dominant molecular adducts for the compounds, offering potential for method development applicable to various materials. The research, published in Microchemical Journal, confirmed structure assignments using stable isotope-labeled analogs and concluded that there is room for further method development in analyzing polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in different sample types.
