Abstract
- A comparative study of the temperature stability of a full-formula motor oil, Mobil Ultra SAE 10W-40, doped with two carbon nanoadditives (nanotubes and fullerenes) is presented. The optimum concentrations of the compared nanoadditives in terms of friction coefficients, as well as the optimum concentrations in terms of the amount of heat released during friction, have been preliminarily established. It was found that doping the studied oil with fullerene increases the critical temperature by 10–15°C, and alloying this oil with carbon nanotubes increases the critical temperature by 20–25°C.
