Abstract

The article discusses a retrospective study on atlantoaxial arthritis (AA) in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients, comparing the prevalence and clinical characteristics between systemic onset JIA (sJIA) and polyarticular JIA (pJIA). The study found that AA was more common in pJIA patients than in sJIA patients, with clinical manifestations including neck pain, torticollis, and limited range of motion. Treatment for AA involves managing underlying diseases and orthopedic interventions, with a combination of biologics and orthopedic procedures showing promise in improving cervical prognosis in JIA patients with AA. The study highlights the importance of considering JIA as a potential cause of AA and the effectiveness of combined therapy for better outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
