Abstract

The European Union has made limited progress in negotiations with China to replace tariffs on electric vehicles, with technical talks ongoing but minimal engagement between the two sides. China has not yet met the EU's requirements for an enforceable agreement, and disagreements persist over price undertakings and agreements with individual carmakers. The EU recently imposed additional tariffs on EVs, prompting China to threaten retaliatory measures on dairy, pork, and brandy. Talks are focused on establishing communication mechanisms and avoiding cross-compensation risks. [Extracted from the article]
