Abstract

Researchers from the Department of Podiatric Surgery in Oakland, California, conducted a study on secondary surgeries following Lapidus bunionectomy for hallux valgus. They found that 5% of patients required revision surgery and 6.5% needed hardware removal post-procedure. Risk factors for revision surgery included the use of a screw for fixation, while female sex and the type of fixation were associated with hardware removal. The study aims to help healthcare providers identify specific risk factors to discuss with patients considering this procedure. [Extracted from the article]
