Abstract

A recent study conducted by Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, focused on the genetic diversity and population structure of Salmonella typhimurium ST34 and ST19 lineages. The research revealed that 57.22% of S. typhimurium isolates were multidrug resistant, with resistance to ciprofloxacin identified in 60.82% of isolates. The study categorized the population structure into three lineages, highlighting the importance of monitoring the ST34 lineages due to their multidrug resistance and potential hypervirulence. This research provides valuable insights into the adaptation and genetic diversity of S. typhimurium, emphasizing the need for epidemiological surveillance. [Extracted from the article]
