Abstract
- The paper discusses the plans of the Beneš-led emigration to eradication of the German and Hungarian minorities in Czechoslovakia during World War II. The initial moderate plans were radically changed as the international situation of the emigrant government became more stable and the Allied military victories were achieved. In the first years, the emigration leadership considered the creation of autonomous cantons of nationalities and the transfer or population exchange of border areas inhabited by nationalities as a possibility. From 1943 onwards, the idea of restoring the pre-1938 borders and creating a Slavic nation-state became dominant. The radical reduction in the number of minorities was to be achieved primarily by means of transfer and population exchange. Beneš sought to negotiate the support of his three most important allies for his plan to displace the minority population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
