Abstract

A study conducted by Florida State University highlighted a case of profound obstructive sleep apnea caused by an unrecognized lingual angiomyxoma in a 44-year-old woman with a concurrent intracranial neoplasm. The patient's symptoms, initially attributed to the brain tumor, were actually a result of the lingual tumor obstructing her airway during sleep. Prompt surgical intervention led to the resolution of all symptoms, emphasizing the importance of considering rare conditions in the diagnosis of sleep disorders. The research, published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, sheds light on the complexities of diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea in unique clinical scenarios.
