Abstract
- Researchers from Henry Ford Hospital conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess the impact of preoperative anemia on hospitalization, death, and overall survival in patients with peripheral artery disease undergoing endovascular therapy. The study, which included 79,707 adult patients, found that the presence and degree of preoperative anemia were independently associated with increased 30-day mortality and length of hospital stay, as well as decreased overall survival. The findings suggest implications for preoperative risk stratification in patients undergoing peripheral vascular interventions and may help optimize patient care and safety while potentially reducing healthcare expenditures.
