Abstract

A study conducted at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, India, focused on the clinical spectrum and outcomes of acute hepatitis in children caused by Parvovirus B19 infection. The research found that Parvovirus B19 should be considered in cases of indeterminate acute liver injury, particularly in younger children or those with complications like aplastic anemia, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), or myocarditis. The study analyzed data from children admitted with acute viral hepatitis, acute liver failure, or acute-on-chronic liver failure between 2010 and 2023, highlighting the importance of recognizing Parvovirus B19-related hepatitis in pediatric patients.
