Abstract

A study conducted at Hebrew University of Jerusalem compared postoperative bleeding rates and severity in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillotomy versus tonsillectomy for obstructive sleep apnea. The research found that tonsillotomy had a lower bleeding rate (3.9%) compared to tonsillectomy (9.5%), with fewer patients requiring surgical bleeding control post-tonsillotomy. Tonsillotomy was associated with a safer postoperative bleeding profile and reduced bleeding severity, making it a potentially preferable option for pediatric patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
