Abstract

A recent study conducted by the University of Fort Hare in South Africa focused on developing sodium alginate-based single- and double-layer membranes loaded with Capparis sepiaria root extract for wound healing. The membranes were found to be biodegradable, non-toxic to human skin cells, and exhibited high biocompatibility and good hemocompatibility. They also showed enhanced antimicrobial activity against pathogens responsible for wound infections, making them promising wound dressings for treating infected wounds. The research was funded by the South African Medical Research Council and involved a team of researchers from various institutions. [Extracted from the article]
