Abstract

Indian people have belief in medicinal plants for their various ailments from fever to cancer without knowing the chemical nature. This research work will pave a new way to understand important active chemical components in medicinal plants have been used in long term for human diseases. Recent high mortality rate in India by non-communicable diseases were identified and chosen one of the important diseases (cardiovascular diseases). The second step to identify widely used medicinal plant and may be practiced by medical practioners for chosen human disease. The medicinal plant was collected and identified with the help of botanists and then shade-dried plant species used to prepare the extracts for identifying secondary metabolites and anti-oxidant (biomolecules have medicinal property) with different polar solvents. The extracts were used to identify the secondary metabolites and anti-oxidant with the help of GC-MS, FTIR and UV-Visible Spectrophotometer with standard biomolecule estimation procedure. The valuable medicinally active chemical components of selected plant species were identified and concluded the value with the help of standard biochemical experiments through qualitative and quantitatively especially antioxidant by DPPH Assay. The identified compounds were: terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids and polyphenols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
