Abstract

Jack Ball's new work challenges the extractive history of the archive while exploring the complexity of trans life through collage, color, photographs, and installation. The artist's practice has evolved from rigid metal frames to more organic forms, incorporating wax forms and soft sculpture. Ball's work at the solo exhibition "Heavy grit" at PICA reflects a visual language that examines queer agency and vocabulary, creating a sense of queer experience without being overt. The artist's use of collage and material approach allows for new modes of personal world-building in trans and queer art making. [Extracted from the article]
