Abstract
- In this introductory article, I briefly examine South Korea's authoritarian approach to film censorship during the 1970s. Specifically, I focus on key institutional features such as the establishment of the Public Performance Ethics Committee, its organizational structure, and its new modus operandi. Additionally, the article will bring attention to the close interaction between the censor office and the film production companies, reflecting different types of discretion in the exercise by the censor agencies.
