Abstract
- Researchers at the University of Porto in Portugal have conducted a study on the efficacy of chloroquine-derived bile salts in pluronic F127 micelles against blood-stage Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite that causes malaria. The study found that these salts, when loaded into polymeric micelles, showed enhanced antiplasmodial efficacy, with a significant decrease in IC50 values. This research opens up new possibilities for the nanoformulations of antimalarial compounds and was supported by the NIH National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases.
