Abstract

A scoping review examined the literature on screening for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in pediatric clinical settings to prevent negative health outcomes. The review included 31 studies conducted in the United States between 2012 and 2024, identifying various ACE screening tools with an average response time of 15 minutes. However, significant gaps exist in the consistency and effectiveness of screening methods, including barriers such as lack of training for healthcare personnel, limited resources for follow-up care, and cultural differences in interpreting ACEs. The review suggests the need for standardized tools, protocols, and further research to evaluate the effectiveness of ACE screening in reducing health issues related to ACEs, particularly in diverse cultural contexts like Colombia.
