Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Senegal focused on the physiological effects of Combretum micranthum on hydro-electrolyte metabolism, renal function, and blood pressure. The study included 40 subjects and found that consumption of Combretum micranthum led to a decrease in body fat percentage, an increase in body water mass, and a reduction in hypertension indices similar to the effects of furosemide or spironolactone. The researchers concluded that Combretum micranthum may play a role in maintaining hydro-electrolyte balance and regulating blood pressure through its polyphenolic components, suggesting the need for further investigation into its physiological mechanisms.
