Abstract
- A study published in Family Practice News in September 2024 found that treatment-resistant major depression (TRD) is associated with a 17% higher risk of all-cause mortality compared to non-TRD major depressive disorder. The increased mortality risk was primarily driven by suicide and accidental overdose, which were nearly twice as high among individuals whose depression did not improve after two treatments. The study, led by Tapio T. Gustafsson from the University of Eastern Finland, Niuvanniemi Hospital, highlighted the need for further research and clinical interventions to address the higher mortality rates associated with TRD.
