Abstract

This article investigates the demonstration directed against the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace by a faculty-student alliance at Stanford University in spring 1983. It seems that from the 1960s to the 1980s the virtue of academic freedom has been attacked often by liberals, who sometimes succeed because for one thing, they have been supported by university administrations. Another reason for this success is the supposed neutralism of the university campus. These reasons lead to demonstrations such as the anti-Hoover campaign, which aims to revoke the autonomy of the Hoover Institution through the authority of the Stanford University administration.
