Abstract

The article focuses on Sealed Air Corp., Saddle Brook, New Jersey-based maker of bubble wrap, the plastic packaging that forms a shell over fragile items. The company had discovered that there was a limited market for its patented product. In 1982, the recession knocked down sales and earnings and toppled Sealed Air from the U.S. best small public companies. But now it appears that Sealed Air is turning around. The company's CEO T.J. Dermot Dunphy strengthened Sealed Air's position by buying Cellu Products Co. The $20 million acquisition gave Sealed Air a broader protective packaging product line.
