Abstract

A study conducted at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran compared the effects of two surfactant administration methods, Minimally Invasive Surfactant Therapy (MIST) and Intubation (INSURE), in premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome. The research found that the MIST method resulted in lower need for mechanical ventilation, shorter duration of CPAP and oxygen therapy, and less incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) compared to the INSURE method. However, surfactant reflux was more common in the MIST group. The study concluded that MIST is a feasible, effective, and low-risk alternative to the INSURE method for surfactant therapy in premature infants. [Extracted from the article]
