Abstract

A study conducted at Hangzhou Normal University in Zhejiang, China, explored the effects of sodium butyrate (NaB) on cholesterol gallstones in mice fed a lithogenic diet. The research found that NaB activated peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) and suppressed gallstone formation, liver damage, and cholesterol metabolism-related gene expression. This study provides scientific evidence supporting the potential of NaB in treating gallstones by activating PPAR-gamma.
