Abstract

Recent studies suggest that drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, typically used for diabetes and obesity, may also help reduce cravings in individuals struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction. Research indicates that individuals with opioid use disorder who took GLP-1 receptor agonists had a lower overdose rate and reduced hospitalization risk compared to those not taking these medications. While these findings are not definitive, they hint at the potential for a significant advancement in addiction treatment. Further research is needed, along with efforts to make these drugs more affordable and accessible for those in need. [Extracted from the article]
