Abstract

The 2022 vintage of Barossa Shiraz showcased 20 new-wave wines that depart from the heavy, high-alcohol styles of the past, offering nimble wines with bright flavors and supple tannins. Winemakers like Michael Hall and Thistledown are leading the way in expressing intense old-vine flavors with nuance and poise, while producers like Alkina and The Cutting are introducing new, elegant expressions of Barossa Shiraz. The transition of Barossa Shiraz towards leaner, more vibrant styles is gaining momentum, making it an exciting space to watch in future vintages. [Extracted from the article]
