Abstract

The article discusses how a high school teacher in Portland, Oregon, engaged her diverse students in environmental justice activism by connecting them to local issues. The students researched and addressed the environmental impacts of an abandoned Kmart site near their school, leading to a successful Environmental Justice Fair that attracted over 400 visitors. Through this project, students learned about activism, engaged with community organizations, and realized the power of their voices in creating positive change in their neighborhood. The teacher's efforts helped students see themselves as environmental activists and inspired them to consider future careers in environmental justice. [Extracted from the article]
