Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Colorado focused on the clinical impact of using Streptococcus pneumoniae polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in children with complicated pneumonia. The research found that PCR testing of pleural fluid led to more microbiologic diagnoses, optimized antibiotic therapy, and reduced exposure to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) therapy. This study highlights the potential benefits of utilizing PCR testing for pediatric complicated pneumonia cases. [Extracted from the article]
