Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Hunan University of Medicine focused on the treatment of traumatic osteomyelitis in the lower leg and foot using distally based sural flaps. The study found that the flap combined with appropriate osteomyelitis treatment was effective in treating soft tissue defects. Risk factors for osteomyelitis recurrence included patient age over 40 years and Cierny-Mader type IV osteomyelitis. The research was funded by the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province and published in Scientific Reports. [Extracted from the article]
