Abstract

A systematic scoping review and thematic synthesis of theories on the psychological aspects of caregiving after stroke was conducted. The study aimed to identify, organize, and describe theories related to stroke informal caregiving to understand the experiences and psychological impact on caregivers. Thirteen distinct theories were identified, leading to the development of two overarching themes and several subthemes related to the stages of caregiving and post-stroke life adjustments. The research highlights the importance of recognizing caregivers' needs and potential roles in supporting them, providing valuable insights for clinical psychology practice and future research in stroke care.
