Abstract

A study conducted at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, explored the impact of locoregional anesthesia (LRA) versus general anesthesia (GA) on patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The research found that LRA was associated with lower rates of perioperative cardiac complications in symptomatic CHF patients. The study included over 21,000 patients and concluded that CEA can be safely performed in patients with CHF when using LRA. This research was supported by the Betty Jane and Alfred J. Fisher Vascular Surgery Research Fund and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
