Abstract

The article identifies invasive fish species in freshwater ecosystems in India and investigates their detrimental effects on the sustainability of endemic fish species. The study discusses the role on invasive fish species in the predation of native species, change of food web and species abundance and diversity, disruption of ecosystem functions and services, biodiversity loss, economic loss, health hazards and range extension. It calls for measures to protect freshwater fish biodiversity.
