Abstract
- This article discusses the impacts of the energy crisis on households in England and Wales, with a focus on the equity implications. The study utilizes a large collection of microdata to quantify the energy shock experienced by households and examines how it varies across different demographics and building characteristics. Low-income households were particularly affected by the crisis, as energy costs represented a disproportionate burden on their income. The study suggests that wealthier regions experienced larger shocks due to the characteristics of the properties in those areas. However, the analysis is limited by the high level of data aggregation, which masks within-region heterogeneity. The author recommends using more granular data sources, such as income data at the Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) level, to better understand the distributional impact of the crisis. Future research could also explore household-level energy consumption and household responses to energy price changes. [Extracted from the article]
