Abstract
- Noel "Sonny" Izon, a community activist and documentary filmmaker, was honored for his achievements by the Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project (FilVetREP). Izon, who passed away in 2023, was remembered for his contributions to securing the Congressional Gold Medal for Filipino veterans. His award-winning documentary, "An Open Door: Holocaust Haven in the Philippines," highlighted the acceptance of Jewish refugees by the Philippines during World War II. Izon's work also included documenting the experiences of Filipino soldiers and the history of Filipino Americans. The FilVetREP is a nonpartisan initiative that seeks national recognition for Filipino and American World War II soldiers. [Extracted from the article]
